Source Digital is a video technology company building interactive, metadata-driven video experiences. Their platform extracts structured data from video content and enables in-stream interactions such as quizzes, contextual prompts, and learning moments across web, mobile, and connected TV.

At its core, Source Digital analyzes and extracts contextual metadata from video, indexes it into a centralized data lake, and exposes it so clients can build interactive moment-in-time experiences (quizzes, ads, product links, and more) layered on top of video. One of their initiatives, an educational platform, required secure, school-friendly authentication aligned with U.S. education standards.

Executive Summary
MEV partnered with Source Digital to deliver a production-ready Clever SSO integration for an educational platform initiative under a fixed deadline, while keeping the existing username and password flow intact. Alongside the SSO rollout, Source Digital also wanted to reduce long-term dependency risk in its SDK ecosystem.
We implemented Clever OAuth 2.0 end-to-end across backend and frontend, including identity mapping, token handling, and integration with the existing AWS Cognito setup. The scope also covered automated provisioning and roster synchronization, including initial import and incremental updates, plus conflict handling for mismatched data.
We included security review support and FERPA compliance verification, with documentation prepared for review and future audits. The integration was delivered in 2 months against a 4-month deadline.

Solution & Implementation

We implemented Clever SSO as an additional authentication path, not a replacement,  preserving existing users while enabling school-based login.
Implementation principle:
The integration preserved the existing username/password flow while adding Clever SSO as an optional login method, using OAuth 2.0 and user mapping to associate Clever identities with DCA accounts (including provisioning for new users).
