Project: Healthcare Data Management & Patient Engagement Platform (pharma)

We’re building a data management platform for the pharmaceutical sector that connects patients, healthcare providers, and pharma teams. For clinical process automation and case management, we use the Flowable Platform.

Flowable is the workflow backbone: it orchestrates task assignments, approvals, escalations, and step-by-step tracking. Everything is traceable and structured from a process perspective, not stuck in emails or spreadsheets.

We embedded Flowable components into our application and use Flowable’s React-based forms to bring tasks and process-driven screens directly into the product experience, rather than pushing users into a separate workflow tool.

What is Flowable?

Flowable is a workflow and case management platform built around open standards. It runs BPMN workflows, CMMN case management, and DMN decision tables, so teams can automate processes that involve people, rules, and integrations.

Is Flowable open source? Can we use it for free?

Flowable provides an open source edition of the core engines under the Apache 2.0 license, so you can use it without license fees. Open source gives you the core engines and APIs. The commercial Flowable products build on top of those engines and are licensed. They add ready-to-use UI and product features for designing, running, and administering workflows and cases.

Do you work with Flowable for healthcare use cases?

Yes. We use Flowable as a workflow engine for case management and clinical process automation, including regulated environments.

Can we start with one workflow or one pathway?

Yes. A focused MVP is often the fastest way to validate modeling choices, integrations, and operational needs.

Do we build on Flowable Work or integrate Flowable into an existing UI?
